Book: MY GRANDMOTHER ASKED ME TO TELL YOU SHE'S SORRY

By Fredrick Blackman. My pen sketch based on the cover of the book.

A story of love, forgiveness, mothers and daughters, and seeing the big picture of love and equality in the world by helping those in need. We see the world through Elsa, a seven and a half  year old gifted child, and her 77 year old grandmother. Cute, and profound. Through the letters to be delivered after her death, Elsa discovered the extent of her grandmother's generosity and love for refugees, disabled and abandoned people, and anybody in trouble. Interesting story, appropriate for today's political situation. I recommend this book!

Women on the Move , Hanoi's Migrant Roving Street Vendors.

Extraordinary book by Jensen, Peppard and Tháng, based on years of study and research of this modern Vietnamese phenomenon.

This is my sketch and book summary in my notebook. After the farmer and land reform in Vietnam in the 1990s, called DOI MOI, more responsibility was added on the shoulders of women. They started going to the city to sell their products, in order to bring more money home. Family culture remains strongly influenced by Confucian traditions, the man is the head of the family, the woman obeys and works harder than everybody else! Women obey three men in their lives: father, husband, and son.

PAPA LO SABE TODO, pastel portrait, 20x16in. Riding on a bus in Costa Rica, I saw this father and child through the window, in the bus next to me. I was inspired by the look of trust and love in both of them. I tried to convey those feelings in my portrait. "Papa lo Sabe Todo " means : Father Knows Best, or Father Knows Everything. The world is safe for me.

FLOR DE UN DÍA, Watercolor and acrylic, 22x15 in. The title reflects the lyrics of a famous Argentine tango. This painting is one of a series of tango dancing paintings I did after the pain and shock of the death of several family members in a car accident in Argentina. At the beginning I was in such pain I couldn't paint anything, then slowly I felt I had to paint something representing my country of birth.

Coloring for adults

Coloring is good for your health! Drawing, coloring and painting puts you into a flow-like state. It helps you focus, relax, probably lower your blood pressure. According to a study in the journal "Neurology" as cited in the AARP magazine, people who engage in arts and crafts have a LOWER RISK of developing thinking and memory problems!
